Journal #5

    I got a Twitter account around 2018. At the time I mostly used it to keep up with celebrities and friends. I have also found that Twitter is a good place to hear about current events, though they should always be fact checked with a more reliable source. Twitter might be helpful in my future career because it would allow me to connect with and share ideas with other teachers. This would be good to keep my teaching fresh and fun.  

    I believe that the digital divide can affect a student's success in school. Those who do not have access to the technology and internet as other students do can be put at a disadvantage. Some causes of the digital divide may include economic status, geographic location, or lack of motivation to learn how to use technology. I might use programs like Kahoot in my classroom and the digital divide might affect how often I use online programs because I would not like students to be left out. But I could also take time to teach them how to use it, but it might take away class time from the students who already have that skill set.  


    Two academic software tools that I would like to implement in my future classroom are Office365 and Quizlet. I would like to use Office365 with my future students because for as long as I can remember that is what I have used to create word documents and slide shows and have always found it to be a valuable tool. Specifically, the OneDrive part of it, it was always helpful to be able to work on something at school and then log on to Office365 and work on it at home. I would like to use Quizlet with my future students because it allows you to make virtual flashcards that can be accessed anywhere with the internet or be printed out. I find this would be useful because it could be used for things like learning vocabulary words.  


    I think that badges are a cool concept, I had not heard of them before doing this week's readings and I think they are a cool way to show achievements. I have never earned a badge before. Moving forward I plan to do things in order to earn badges. Since I do not have any badges yet, I do not share them, but once I earn some, I think I would share them. I would want to share them because it would be cool to show that I earned something.

    Hi Hannah, great blog post! I agree that the digital divide can affect a student's success in school because of lack of access to technology. I think it's important for educator's to keep this in mind when making their lesson plans. Although I mentioned different softwares, I agree that Quizlet could be very useful to study using the flashcard feature.

      I have used Microsoft Word in my schooling for as long as I can remember. My freshmen year of  high school I actually received a certification in it, as well as some other Office 365 programs. I like Microsoft Word because it is easy to use and has always worked for me. I have used Google Docs before but I much prefer Microsoft Word. I don't quite have a reason for liking it more other than familiarity since I have been using it for so long.      The ISTE standard that is most meaningful to me is " Model and nurture creativity and creative expression to communicate ideas, knowledge or connections.". This standard to me means to allow for and encourage creativity in students in all aspects of their learning.     My name is Hannah Perake s. I am a  freshman  at Florida State  University, and I am majoring in Elementary Education. In the future I would like to be an elementary school teacher.   For a long time, I wanted to be a psychologist but in the last few years I realized that I wanted to be a teacher.      My whole schooling experience I have used technology. In elementary school I remember the teachers using Smart Boards and they had laptop carts that we would  occasionally  use.  In middle school we did most of our tests and work on laptops.
